As you may be aware, HSBC sold their Wills and Probate business to a company called Simplify Channel Ltd in June.
If you made a Will with HSBC, you may have appointed them as your Executors. If so, you will have received a letter from HSBC, asking you what you would like to do about your Executors, now that the company has been sold.
Included in this letter will have been a computer generated ‘Codicil’, amending your Will to appoint Simplify Channel as your executors in place of HSBC. Before you take any action, it’s crucial that you carefully consider your options.
It’s not necessary for you to sign the Codicil (if that’s what you chose to do) before the deadline stipulated in the HSBC letter. You can make an amendment to your Will at any time.
In a lot of cases, it makes more sense, and is often far more cost effective, to appoint a family member or friend to act as your Executor. They can always get advice from a Solicitor if they need it at the time. Please also note that Simplify Group Ltd are not authorised and regulated Solicitors.

Understanding the Probate Timeline
The term ‘probate’ is often used to refer to the period of winding up someone’s estate after their death. However, ‘probate’ can more specifically mean a document issued by the Probate Office.
